About the museum
The beginnings of the museum in Drzonów go back to 1 January 1978, when a military department was set up in the Lubusz Land Museum. It has operated as an independent institution since 8 May 1985, and since 2015 it has been a cultural institution of the city of Zielona Góra. It was entered in the State Register of Museums, and in 1986 it was given the name of the 2nd Polish Army.
The museum is housed in a 19th-century classicist palace with a park of over 4 ha. The palace holds four permanent exhibition rooms, and the park and the exhibition pavilion present a collection of heavy military equipment: tanks, armoured transporters, artillery, rockets, military vehicles, aircraft and helicopters, as well as a fortification open-air museum.
The collections number over 3,500 exhibits from the Middle Ages to modern times: armoured and aviation equipment, firearms and edged weapons, protective equipment, uniforms, decorations, documents, maps and photographs. Among the museum’s highlights are the Vis wz. 32 pistol, two SU-152 self-propelled guns and an Iskra aircraft. The museum also organises military picnics, Museum Night, museum lessons and knightly combat displays.
