About the museum
The beginnings of the collection go back to the thirties of the 20th century, when Władysław Litwińczuk found a stone object from the Neolithic period in Suraż. The discovery encouraged him to search systematically for antiquities, and over time he gathered a considerable collection. He first showed it publicly at an exhibition in 1962.
The museum was founded in 1986 in a private outbuilding next to the collector's house. After his death in 1992 it has been run by his son, Wiktor Litwińczuk, who continues his father's work.
The collections consist mainly of flint products and tools from the Neolithic, pottery, bone tools, gravestones and cemetery crosses from the area, the remains of extinct animals, as well as military items and everyday objects. The exhibits come mainly from the area of Suraż and the Narew valley.
