About the museum
The idea of a collection of combat vehicles arose at the turn of 1963 and 1964 at the Officer School of Armoured and Mechanised Troops in Golęcin, Poznań. A building was constructed for vehicles withdrawn from service, and over the decades the collection grew thanks to specimens from military units, training grounds and exchanges. Since it was located on the grounds of a military unit, it was accessible only occasionally.
After 1993 the collections became part of the Tradition Room of the Land Forces Training Centre (Centrum Szkolenia Wojsk Lądowych), and from 1997 they were managed like a museum collection: they were catalogued and conserved. In December 2008, 37 vehicles were entered into the Register of Monuments of Greater Poland. The Museum of Armoured Weapons (Muzeum Broni Pancernej) was formally established on 1 April 2015 as a branch of the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw.
The present seat at ul. 3 Pułku Lotniczego 4 was opened on 4 October 2019. For visitors four pavilions of 700 m² each have been prepared, as well as an outdoor exhibition under a canopy of 3,000 m². The collection includes about 230 exhibits, including 75 vehicles from various countries.
