About the museum
The Muzeum Bursztynu w Kołobrzegu opened on 8 May 2018. It grew out of the passion of its founders, who first traded in amber jewellery and products and, in parallel, had for years been building personal collections of unique objects and working with the amber craftsmen’s community.
The exhibition shows specimens of amber lumps, including the largest lump, weighing 2.2 kg, as well as jewellery and utilitarian objects. Visitors can see a grinding workshop and watch the craftsman at work, learn about a medieval grinding workshop and find out how amber was mined in the past and is mined today. One room is devoted to the chemical, physical and healing properties of amber.
A shop with souvenirs, jewellery and cosmetics made of amber operates next to the museum, and amber-working workshops are organised for groups.
