About the museum
The Kołobrzeg Museum “Patria Colbergiensis” is a non-governmental organisation whose aim is to popularise culture in the context of local history. It was created not from public funds but through the commitment of citizens and enthusiasts of the town's history, and it has been entered in the register of museums kept by the Ministry of Culture. The institution is housed in the cellars of the town hall at ul. Armii Krajowej 12, and most of the exhibits come from private collections.
The museum presents a wide range of monuments connected with the history of the town and the Kołobrzeg fortress: drawings and prints, maps, coins and medals, town and guild seals, documents, militaria, paintings and crafts. In addition to its exhibition activity, it conducts research, takes part in the creation of radio plays and film productions, and popularises the history of Kołobrzeg among residents and tourists.
The exhibition consists of several rooms: “Pod Zegarem” (Under the Clock), with prints, cartography and a cinema room; “Kołobrzeska Twierdza” (Kołobrzeg Fortress), with a battlefield from the wars of the 17th–19th centuries; a room on the siege of Kołobrzeg in 1806–1807; a room devoted to the spa before 1945; and the room “Kołobrzeskich Pionierów” (Kołobrzeg Pioneers), which recreates the atmosphere of the town in the 1940s and 1950s.
