About the museum

The Karlino Land Museum has operated since September 2010. Items connected with the town had previously been collected under the name Karlińska Skarbnica (Karlino Treasury), and the institution was given one of the rooms in the attic of the building at ul. Szymanowskiego 17. The building was erected in 1905 as the seat of a Prussian court authority. It represents the neo-Gothic style, with red facing brick, a high roof and two towers.

After the Second World War the building served in turn as a justice of the peace court, the seat of the organisation Służba Polsce (Service to Poland), and a health centre with a rehabilitation department. In 2007 it was revitalised and handed over to the institutions of the town and commune. Today, besides the museum, it houses, among others, the Association of Towns and Communes of the Parsęta River Basin, the municipal guard and a tourist information point.

The collections include old views and postcards of the town, seals, a chronicle written by the pre-war teacher and archivist Reinhold Wedig, and the equipment of an old pharmacy from the 1950s and 1960s. A separate section consists of memorabilia of the oil and gas blowout of 1980. The museum also runs an exhibition on the first Polish settlers in Karlino in 1945–1947, shows temporary exhibitions, and collects objects for a future fire service museum.
