About the museum
The first municipal museum in Bolesławiec was founded in 1911 in the building at 13 ul. Mickiewicza. In 1950 the Muzeum Ceramiki (Museum of Ceramics) was set up in its place, which after nationalisation was supervised by the Silesian Museum in Wrocław. After renovation it reopened on 27 December 1953 with archaeological, folk art and ceramics exhibitions. In 1967 the museum resumed its work as a regional museum, and from 1968 it has borne the name Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec.
In 1991 the museum took over the building at 14 ul. Kutuzowa, where the Kutuzov Museum had previously operated. From 1995 the Town History Department was based there, and in 2023 the building became the Centre for Old Pottery Techniques. At the end of 2022 reconstruction of the Pücklera Palace at 28/29 ul. Zgorzelecka began, and from April 2024 the ceramics collections and the history of the town have been shown in the new building, next to the revitalised park.
The collections cover materials on the history of Bolesławiec and the region, the history of Bolesławiec ceramics and contemporary ceramic sculpture by artists who took part in local plein-air events. The museum also runs a library, guided tours of the museum and the town, and ceramics workshops at the Centre for Old Pottery Techniques.
