About the museum

The Walery Rzewuski Museum of the History of Photography in Kraków, known as MuFo, has its main seat in the former building of the Austrian barracks at ul. Rakowicka 22A. It was opened to the public on 4 December 2021. The building houses exhibitions, educational rooms, a bookshop, a café, a library with a reading room and the museum’s offices.

The second branch, MuFo Józefitów, is located in the former seat of the museum at ul. Józefitów 16, which was thoroughly modernised in 2018–2020. On the neighbouring plot a seven-storey building was erected with modern storerooms and conservation and digitisation workshops. There are no exhibitions there, but during guided tours visitors learn the path of an exhibit from its acquisition to the exhibition.

The main exhibition “Co robi zdjęcie?” presents the history of photography, its present and future, and shows the works of the most important Polish photographers, such as Walery Rzewuski, Jerzy Lewczyński and Zofia Rydet.
