About the museum
The Muzeum Gorzelnictwa in Łańcut is housed in a classicist manor house from 1833. The building was originally the administrative office of the Łańcut estates of the Potocki family, who ran a distillery as well as a brewery and a sugar factory. After the Second World War it housed a technical school, and from 1970 the building was taken over by the distillery. In 1993–1994, in cooperation with the Muzeum-Zamek w Łańcucie (Łańcut Castle Museum) and the Muzeum Fabryk Wnętrz w Łodzi (Museum of Factory Interiors in Łódź), the former interiors were recreated and the museum was set up here.
The Potocki counts' distillery was one of the first in the Polish lands; a copy of a document from the Kraków archive confirms its activity as early as 1764. Over time, alongside okowita (raw spirit) and single and double distilled vodkas, it began to produce liqueurs, creams, ratafia and rosolis.
The collection includes historic equipment, among others an alembic and a Schwartz apparatus, old bottles, archival labels and documents from the 19th century to the present day. A vertical steam engine that once drove the distillery's machinery stands in the hall, and models illustrate the production processes. A particular attraction is a model of the old bottling line with original parts, where mainly women once worked.
