About the museum
The branch of the Museum of the History of the Polish Peasant Movement (Muzeum Historii Polskiego Ruchu Ludowego) in Sandomierz was established on 1 May 1985. It was originally housed in the building of the Voivodeship Committee of the United Peasant Party (ZSL) in Tarnobrzeg, and the exhibition was opened to visitors in May 1989. In 1990–1991 museum points operated at the branch in Opatów, Klimontów, Janów Lubelski and Staszów. Since 1997 the institution has been housed in the townhouse at Rynek 9.
The collections include mementos of activists of the peasant movement in the Sandomierz region: banners, political documents of peasant organisations, photographs, popular press and leaflets. The exhibition also presents professional and non-professional painting. The collections number around 1,200 objects.
The branch also runs museum lessons for young people, courses, training and lectures for history teachers, and cooperates with cultural institutions in Sandomierz and Tarnobrzeg.
