About the museum
The Museum – Tarnowski Castle in Tarnobrzeg is housed in the former residence of the Tarnowski counts of the Leliwa coat of arms at Dzików, which together with the park and outbuildings forms the most valuable historic complex in Tarnobrzeg. The origins of the residence go back to the Middle Ages, when a brick tower manor house was built above the Vistula escarpment in the fifteenth century. In 1522 Jan Spytek Tarnowski acquired Dzików, and for more than four centuries it remained part of the family estates.
After 1638 a north wing was added to the medieval manor house and became the main body of the castle, and the residence was surrounded by defensive walls, a moat and bastions. The complex was rebuilt over the following centuries, and its revalorisation is now under way.
Visitors learn about the history of the Tarnowski family at Dzików and about the castle itself. The continuation of the famous former Dzików Collection, which contained paintings by European and Polish masters, is the Nowa Kolekcja Dzikowska (New Dzików Collection), created since 2015 mainly from the works of the Marian Ruzamski painting symposia. The castle may only be visited in the presence of a museum employee. The branch is the Muzeum Polskiego Przemysłu Siarkowego (Museum of the Polish Sulphur Industry), in a historic granary.
