About the museum
The branch is housed in Renaissance tenement houses on the market square in Tarnów, at numbers 20 and 21, which for years have belonged to the complex of buildings of the Museum of the Tarnów Land. The permanent exhibition takes visitors through the history of the city and the region, from prehistoric times to the present day.
The guide through Tarnów's history is a barrel organ player (kataryniarz), and the route is marked by a perforated barrel organ tape. In the following rooms the most valuable objects from the museum's collections are shown: parchment documents in the room “pod orłem” (“under the eagle”), medieval swords in the armoury, and prehistoric exhibits and a guild inn in the cellars. Visitors also enter a tram, from whose windows the former Tarnów can be seen, and a display on the Second World War and the People's Republic of Poland.
The building has a lift connecting three levels, and part of the exhibition is adapted for people with mobility impairments.

The lift connects the building's 3 levels. The exhibition rooms have no thresholds and wide corridors; a room with freestanding display cases may be a slight obstacle. On the ground floor there are a cloakroom, reception and a toilet adapted for people with mobility impairments, but to reach the cloakroom and one exhibition room the museum's own ramp rails must be used. The museum has props modelled on exhibits that can be looked at and touched. On Plac Rybny and ul. Wekslarska (about 200 m away) there are two marked parking spaces each for people with disabilities; the route runs along a pavement of granite slabs and partly uneven cobblestones.
