About the museum

The Muzeum Katedralne (Cathedral Museum) was established in 2015 as a cultural institution of the Radom diocese. It was part of a joint project of the commune of the city of Radom, the cathedral parish and the diocesan curia, which also laid out the tourist route “Zabytki Radomia” (Monuments of Radom), renovated the facade of the neo-Gothic cathedral and set up a Tourist Information Centre. The project was largely financed by the European Union.

The museum is housed in the former catechetical halls in the eastern part of the cathedral church, adapted for their new function. They display memorabilia connected with the history of the cathedral, of other historic churches of Radom, of the Radom bishopric, and of priest-martyrs from the Second World War.

The collections include old liturgical vestments, richly illuminated liturgical books and Baroque liturgical vessels, as well as old bell clappers (serca dzwonów) from the cathedral bells. The oldest object is a Gothic sculpture of the Madonna and Child, originally placed on one of the gates of the medieval city walls. A religious relic is the chalice used by John Paul II during the Mass at Radom airport in 1991. The exhibition is accompanied by Stations of the Cross painted by Fr Władysław Paciak.
