About the museum
The Museum of the Kresy in Lubaczów grew out of the Social Regional Museum and is housed in the oldest brick building in the town, a former manor granary. Since 1 January 1999 it has been an institution of the district local government, and it is now a local-government cultural institution of Lubaczów District and Podkarpackie Voivodeship.
In 1994–1998 the museum took over the Castle and Park Complex, with the remains of the castle hill and a manor park of more than 5 ha. The former stables and coach house were converted into the “Oficyna” Gallery, and in the park the “Przygródek. Wspólnota Kultur” (Przygródek. Community of Cultures) Ethnographic Park is being created, with relocated wooden buildings. In 2010 the museum took over the Church Complex in Radruż, with the oldest wooden Orthodox church in Poland, which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and in 2013 the church in Nowy Brus.
The permanent exhibitions in Lubaczów show the history of the Lubaczów land against the background of the multinational heritage of the Kresy of the former Commonwealth, the culture of Lubaczów villages at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and representational and coffin portraits. The collections comprise departments of archaeology and natural history, art, ethnography and wooden architecture, and history.
