Temporarily closed. Since 27 March 2026 the Kamienica Orsettich has been unavailable to visitors until further notice because of a complete replacement of the electrical installation. The museum invites visitors to its branch, the Muzeum Dzieduszyckich in Zarzecze.

About the museum

The museum in Jarosław has officially existed since 1925, although collections relating to the history of the town had been gathered since 1902. It was founded as a municipal museum for the 550th anniversary of Jarosław’s location (lokacja), and its first director was Jan Harlender. The institution had several seats, including the town hall and the Attavanti house (kamienica Attavantich) at Rynek 5.

After the Second World War the museum received the Kamienica Orsettich, one of the most beautiful late Renaissance burghers’ houses in Poland. The building takes its name from Wilhelm Orsetti, an Italian merchant and banker from Kraków, who acquired it in the first half of the seventeenth century, attracted by Jarosław’s high rank as a trading town. The house preserves, among other things, the Great Chamber (Wielka Izba) with its original floor, beamed ceiling and fragments of polychromy, as well as interiors from the nineteenth century.

The collections include archaeological finds, crafts, art and mementos relating to the history of the town. The permanent exhibitions present almost twenty thousand years of the history of the Jarosław land and the period of the town’s greatest prosperity in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The museum also runs a branch in the Dzieduszycki palace in Zarzecze, and since 2026 the building on the market square has been closed because of the replacement of its electrical installation.
