About the museum

The Museum of Forensics of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk was created from a collection gathered over more than thirty years at the university’s forensics laboratory, and it is the only institution of its kind in Poland. Initially the collections were in the Prison Tower and Torture Chamber at Targ Węglowy in Gdańsk, where the laboratory was housed, and in 2001 they were moved to the new building of the Faculty of Law and Administration. Most of the collection was gathered by Jerzy Wnorowski, the first head of the forensics laboratory, with the help of staff of the forensic laboratory of the Voivodeship Police Headquarters in Gdańsk.

The collection includes weapons and ammunition (historical, sport, gas, alarm, signal and pneumatic), edged weapons, objects for electric incapacitation, homemade weapons, military equipment and police uniforms. Also shown are items related to forensics and documentation of well-known cases, forensic photographs, burglars’ tools, equipment for securing traces at the scene and for measuring speed, counterfeit banknotes and objects confiscated from inmates. Part of the collections concerns the serial killer and rapist Paweł Tuchlin, known as ‘Skorpion’ (Scorpion).

The museum is open only to adults because of the nature of the exhibits and photographs. According to information available in the catalogues, it is currently temporarily closed.
