About the museum
The Museum of the Holy Cross opened on 1 June 2020 as a branch of the Muzeum Sztuki Sakralnej in Ligota Dolna. Its creators are the owners of that institution, and the museum describes itself as the first in the world devoted to the Cross. It is run by the Fundacja Studencka Młodzi Młodym.
The seat is a historic building erected in 1700–1709 by the von Gaschin family, founders of the Calvary at Góra Świętej Anny. Originally it housed a pilgrims’ hostel (Dom Pielgrzyma) and the inn “Gräflisches Gast Haus”, and today it is considered one of the oldest houses on Góra Świętej Anny.
The exhibition occupies several rooms and includes the Stations of the Cross, sculptures and paintings showing the crucifixion, Arma Christi and images of saints whose attribute is the cross. On the upper floor is the Hall of a Thousand Crosses, with crucifixes of various denominations; the regional collections comprise the St Anne Room, with memorabilia from Góra Świętej Anny, and the Pilgrim’s Room, with old pilgrimage memorabilia, pre-Vatican II vestments and pilgrim staffs. The same building also houses the Pijalnia Ziół Świętej Anny (St Anne Herbal Drinks Bar) and a souvenir shop.
