About the museum

The Muzeum Ludowe Ziemi Przedborskiej (Folk Museum of the Przedbórz Land) grew out of the Izba Ludowa (Folk Room), which Tadeusz Michalski, later the director of the institution, set up in 1981 at the agricultural school in Przedbórz. The first seat was on the market square. Since 1998 the museum has been located at ul. Kielecka 9, in a renovated former inn from the 18th century, rebuilt in 1898. It is a municipal organisational unit.

The collections number several thousand ethnographic and historical exhibits. In the garden and on the farmyard are old agricultural tools, a cart, a wayside shrine, a well with a crane, a water mill, a smithy, and cooperage and wheelwright workshops. Inside, visitors will see a folk room in 19th-century style, a room of disappearing crafts, products of Przedbórz weavers and folk costumes, as well as a gallery of around 200 religious paintings.

A separate section is devoted to the history of the Jews of Przedbórz, with matzevot (gravestones) in front of the building and Judaica inside. In the former cellar a stylised partisan bunker from the Second World War has been set up, and since 2010 the “Znachorówka” (a room devoted to folk medicine) has operated.
