About the museum
The museum grew out of the Room of Memory and Tradition of the Konecka Land, which the PTTK branch in Końskie opened in January 2004. The room quickly gathered so many historical objects that visitors regarded it as more than an ordinary regional room. After the amendment of the Museums Act in 2007, which made it easier to set up small and private museums, the Main Board of PTTK, by resolution of 23 November 2008, required the Końskie branch to convert the room into a PTTK Regional Museum.
To this end the collections were ordered and inventoried, and the items most valuable in historical and collecting terms were kept on display. The museum’s regulations were adopted on 24 January 2009, and the post of head was changed to that of director. From the outset the museum was run on a voluntary basis, in several rooms on the first floor of an old cooperative bank building.
The collections include historical, ethnographic and regional-studies souvenirs: models of buildings of old Końskie that no longer exist, such as the annotarg, the synagogue and the Orthodox church; old postcards and photographs; documents on the struggle for independence in both world wars; and products of pre-war foundries, including cast-iron vessels, stove doors and irons. The exhibits are currently in storage, and the museum is closed to visitors.
