About the museum
Exhibitions in the Pyskowice town hall began in 2003, when a municipal museum was set up here on the initiative of teacher and regional historian Władysław Macowicz. Over the following years he prepared around a hundred exhibitions on the history of the town and its surroundings, and his collections and commentaries became the foundation of the institution’s work. In 2016 the venue formally adopted the name Centrum Wystawiennicze (Exhibition Centre).
The seat is the town hall on the market square, rebuilt after the great fire of the town in 1822 and completed in 1823. For decades the building served as the seat of the municipal authorities, and since the office was moved in 1996 it has served culture. The Centre is run by the Miejski Ośrodek Kultury i Sztuki w Pyskowicach (Municipal Centre of Culture and Art in Pyskowice); the Galeria PodCień (PodCień Gallery) and an art studio are also located in the same building.
The main part of the permanent exhibition is “Pyskowice Miasto” (Pyskowice Town), opened in May 2024 in cooperation with railway enthusiasts from Stacja Pyskowice (Pyskowice Station). It tells of the town’s development and its importance as a railway junction, and QR codes allow visitors to deepen their knowledge of individual topics.
