About the museum

The Muzeum Miejskie w Tuchowie (Tuchów Municipal Museum) opened in 2013 as the symbolic culmination of celebrations marking the 670th anniversary of the town. The idea came from the chairman of the Municipal Council, and organisational work began in 2009. The institution is housed in the cellars of the Dom Kultury (Culture House), previously used as a boiler room and fuel store, and is a municipal organisational unit.

The collections include more than 5,000 exhibits connected with Tuchów, largely gifts from residents and people connected with the town. Many come from the collection donated by the family of Tadeusz Radwan, a folk artist and traveller. In the Culture House, visitors can see five rooms: an ethnographic room, a room devoted to the residents and history of Tuchów, a room on the two world wars, the Batalion “Barbara” (Barbara Battalion) room, and the Tadeusz Radwan Room, where temporary exhibitions are held.

In 2019, after the building was renovated, an additional section was opened in the basements of the “Sokół” (Falcon) building. Three rooms present the town’s treasury with a replica of the 1340 location charter and a copy of the Tuchów Triptych, documents and souvenirs of the Rozwadowski family, and collections relating to Tuchów’s health service and the “Pod Orłem” (At the Eagle) pharmacy. They also show the triptych “Ardon Windows” and memorabilia connected with St John Paul II.
