About the museum
The Museum of Military History of Silesia opened on 9 November 2014, together with its first permanent exhibition. It is run by the association “Pro Memoria. Stowarzyszenie Bitwy pod Pszczyną 1939”, to which the municipality of Pszczyna handed over the building in 2013.
The seat, the so-called Dom Ogrodnika (Gardener's House), was built in 1881–1883 as a neo-Baroque building of red brick in the French style. It first served the park guard and housed a small public bathhouse, and after the Second World War it had various functions, including serving as the headquarters of the municipal guard.
The exhibition presents the military history of the Pszczyna area from the Neolithic to the peacekeeping missions of Polish soldiers, with emphasis on the Silesian Uprisings, the Battle of Pszczyna in 1939, the occupation and the fight against the independence underground. In front of the building there are reconstructions of siege engines, a Hussite wagon, bunkers and a lapidarium commemorating Silesian battle sites. The museum runs history lessons, publishes materials and organises lectures and temporary exhibitions.
