About the museum
The Zagroda Wsi Pszczyńskiej (Pszczyna Village Farmstead) opened in the mid-1970s in the eastern part of the historic park in Pszczyna, on the initiative of the Towarzystwo Miłośników Ziemi Pszczyńskiej (Society of Friends of the Pszczyna Land). On about two hectares, more than a dozen wooden buildings of the Pszczyna Land were gathered, moved from the surrounding villages.
The oldest building is a manor granary from Czechowice dating from 1784. Among the most valuable are also an octagonal barn from Kryry from the 18th century, a cottage from Grzawa from 1831, a forge from Goczałkowice, and a water mill from Bojszowy, which now houses exhibition rooms. The interiors contain authentic agricultural and craft tools, sleighs, carriages, furniture and examples of folk art. The open-air museum is on the Szlak Architektury Drewnianej (Wooden Architecture Trail) of the Silesian Voivodeship.
In 2013–2015, with funding from the regional operational programme and the municipal budget, new buildings were erected: a multi-purpose building with a shop and a workshop room, a wooden gazebo with a jetty, and an inn. Since 2008 the open-air museum has been managed by the Agencja Rozwoju i Promocji Ziemi Pszczyńskiej (Agency for the Development and Promotion of the Pszczyna Land). The institution runs educational classes on ethnography, beekeeping and herbalism, and organises folklore events such as the Święto Ziół (Herb Festival) and Święto Pszczoły (Bee Festival), and takes part in the Noc Muzeów (Museum Night).
