About the museum
Henryk Jan Dominiak founded the museum in 2013. The exhibition opened to visitors on 16 April 2013 on the ground floor of a residential building at ul. Żwakowska in central Tychy. Until 2012 a mobile gallery of contemporary art, “Po drodze”, was housed here. Because of its small display niche, only a few metres wide, regional publications call the museum the smallest museum in the world.
The collections were built up mainly from donations by artists and private individuals. They are divided into sections: painting, drawing and graphic art, sculpture and ceramics, phaleristics (orders and medals), vexillology (flags), heraldry, symbolism and emblematics, and edged weapons. The museum presents works on a miniature scale, cooperates with artists, institutions and social organisations, and also organises displays outside its premises.
In 2016 the city lent the museum a plot at ul. Żwakowska, where a small square was created with a model of the city and granite-paved streets to stroll along. The museum also carries out charitable activities.
