About the museum
The Muzeum Gorzelnictwa w Turwi (Museum of Distilling in Turwi) has been operating since 2004 at a distillery built in 1918. The distillery in Turwi, associated with the Chłapowski family, is documented in sources from the 18th century, and as the only agricultural distillery in Greater Poland it has operated without interruption for more than a hundred years. Until 2011 it produced spirit for the Pernod Ricard group, owner of the Wyborowa brand.
The museum was created by Grzegorz Konieczny, who from 2004 onward brought equipment to Turwi from closed distilleries in Greater Poland. The growing exhibition is located around the distillery building and in the former malthouse.
The most valuable exhibits are a steam boiler from 1905 and a steam engine from the Potworowski distillery in Gola, as well as a pair of hydrometers made in Rotterdam in 1863 and a 10-tonne steam boiler from the distillery in Stary Gołębin. Visitors will also see mash and water pumps, distillation apparatus, excise padlocks, a starch scale, and documents and literature. The tour is given with the stories of the museum’s custodian.
