About the museum
The Museum of Carpentry and Biskupizna is housed in the building of a former furniture factory founded in 1922 by Teofil Hałas. The factory operated until 1989, and its interiors have survived almost unchanged. In the preserved joinery stand machines and tools, some of which date back to the mid-19th century, including a Deutz gas engine used until 1957.
The museum is run by the Krobia Land Foundation named after Prof. Rajmund Teofil Hałas. Visitors are usually guided by a member of the founder's family, who talks about working in the factory and shows hundreds of chisels, planes, saws, measuring instruments and small furniture fittings. The ground floor has the atmosphere of a workshop; the upper floor is brighter.
A separate part is the Biskupiańska Room (Izba Biskupiańska), with folk costumes, implements and handicrafts from Biskupizna, a small ethnographic region around Krobia. The museum also holds carpentry and art workshops for children and seniors.
