About the museum

The motorcycle museum was established in May 2010 on the initiative of motoring enthusiast Grzegorz Doroba and operates within the Municipal Culture Centre in Świdnik. It occupies the premises of the former Gymnasium No. 2, where the History Zone has also been housed since 2013.

The collection consists mainly of motorcycles produced at the Wytwórnia Sprzętu Komunikacyjnego (WSK, Communications Equipment Factory) in Świdnik. Most of the machines were donated by the factory, and the rest come from private collectors. Visitors can see, among others, the first example from 1954, the two-millionth motorcycle, and the machine on which the Kraków student Marek Michel travelled round the world in the 1970s. Prototypes such as the “Sarenka” III and the M19 “Kos” I are also on show. The exhibition is supplemented by old documents, leaflets, calendars, posters and photographs of riders from the FKS Avia Świdnik club.

The WSK motorcycles are one of five strands of the permanent History Zone exhibition “Świdnik – miasto wolności i marzeń” (Świdnik – City of Freedom and Dreams). The others concern aviation traditions, the WSK strike in July 1980 and the history of “Solidarity”, sporting successes, and the social and cultural life of the town.
