About the museum
The Muzeum Orderu Uśmiechu was set up in connection with the 1st World Gathering of Knights of the Order of Smile (I Światowy Zlot Kawalerów Orderu Uśmiechu), held in Rabka on 1–2 June 1996. Rabka, known since the end of the 19th century as a children's spa, was then nominated by the International Chapter of the Order for the title of “City of the Children of the World” (Miasto Dzieci Świata). The museum was inaugurated in the building of the Upper Silesian Rehabilitation Centre (Górnośląski Ośrodek Rehabilitacji) at ul. Dietla 2, and the opening was performed by Jolanta Kwaśniewska together with the Chancellor of the Chapter, Cezary Leżeński.
In the following years the museum changed its seat: first it moved to Primary School No. 2 at ul. Sądecka, and in spring 2003, on the 35th anniversary of the Order, to a specially built wooden building on the grounds of the Rabkoland family amusement park (Rodzinny Park Rozrywki Rabkoland).
The exhibition shows, among other things, six mannequins depicting the scene of Anna Dymna's knighting as a Knight of the Order, portraits of all the Chancellors of the Chapter, and a map showing the countries from which the knights come, as well as numerous souvenirs relating to the honoured persons. It is looked after by the volunteer Council of the Museum of the Order of Smile (Rada Muzeum Orderu Uśmiechu).
