About the museum
The Muzeum Pałacu Króla Jana III w Wilanowie looks after the memorials of King John III and the Stanisław Kostka Potocki museum, which has existed since 1805. The palace stands in Wilanów, about 10 km from the centre of Warsaw, at the end of the historic Royal Route leading from the Old Town and the Royal Castle to the residence. The former summer residence of John III combines Baroque architecture with gardens and a residential landscape.
Visitors can see, among others, the anteroom and Salon of Marshal Lubomirska, the White Hall, the King’s Library, the Royal Apartments, the Great Hall, the Gallery of Paintings known as the “Museum”, and the former rooms of the Sobieski family on the upper floor. On the upper floor of the palace the permanent exhibition “Kolekcjonerstwo Potockich” (The Potocki Collecting) is on display, and the museum also presents temporary exhibitions.
The museum’s holdings include the historic gardens and park, the palace courtyard, the Orangery and buildings in the park such as the Pumping Station and Villa Intrata. The museum conducts scholarly research, publishes books and journals, organises conferences and educational activities, and makes its collection and materials available online. The museum’s statute was granted by an order of the Minister of Culture of 28 May 2021.
