About the museum
The Museum of Polish Military Technology is a branch of the Muzeum Wojska Polskiego in Warsaw and is housed in Fort IX named after Jan Henryk Dąbrowski, at ul. Powsińska 13, in the southern part of Mokotów. The fort belongs to the former Russian fortifications of the Warsaw Fortress, built in 1883. Ul. Powsińska divides it into two parts: the larger one is occupied by the museum, and the smaller one is a park.
From the early 1990s the Muzeum Wojska Polskiego gathered obsolete equipment from military units here, and at the end of the decade an open-air exhibition was set up and opened to visitors. In 2001 the museum received the Sybilla award of the Minister of Culture for returning the fort to cultural life, and in 2006 the same award for the restoration of the historic TK-S tank.
Today more than 220 pieces of 20th-century military equipment are displayed on a site of 3.2 ha: armoured vehicles, artillery and engineering equipment, communications equipment, aircraft, anti-aircraft defence and radar systems. In the casemates there are internal exhibitions, including “Wojna 1939. Zrobiliśmy to, co do nas należało” (We Did What Was Ours to Do) with TK-S and 7TP tanks, and a maritime exhibition with a model of the submarine “Orzeł”. On the administrative building facing ul. Powsińska there is a hundred-metre mural depicting the fighting of Polish soldiers in 1939, the Warsaw Uprising and the history of the fort.
