About the museum
The Museum of Baking is housed in the former bakery of the Vogt family, which operated on this site from 1913. Bread was still being baked here in 2005, after which production moved to a modern bakery in Kowalew. The old building was thoroughly renovated and the collection began to be gathered; the first visitors were welcomed in September 2006. The owners, Grażyna and Tomasz Vogt, continue the traditions of a bakery and confectionery family whose origins date back to the 19th century.
The collection includes old baking equipment, among it grain mills and three different ovens for baking bread and confectionery, some of which are still in working order. Guild documents are on display, the oldest dating from 1784, along with old protocols and family memorabilia connected with the Vogt family.
The visit includes viewing the exhibition and a film about bread-baking; during workshops participants shape and bake the dough themselves. The museum also offers lectures, museum lessons and workshops for children and adults, and in May, during the Museum Night (Noc Muzeów), visitors can try bread baked in an old chest oven (piec piersiowy). In 2006 the museum received second prize in the “Izabella” competition for museum event of the year in Greater Poland.
