About the museum
The palace in Dobrzyca is an 18th-century classicist residence with original polychromy, surrounded by a landscape park of more than ten hectares. After the Second World War the building served, among other things, as a grain store, flats, a cultural centre and a library. The destruction of the palace and park continued for decades, and members of the local PTTK circle worked to save them.
In 1988 the Muzeum Narodowe w Poznaniu (National Museum in Poznań) took over the complex and set up a Muzeum Wolnomularstwa (Museum of Freemasonry) within it. In January 1996 the independent Muzeum Zespół Pałacowo-Parkowy w Dobrzycy (Dobrzyca Palace and Park Complex Museum) was established. After renovations and conservation work, the palace was opened to visitors, and the official opening of the museum took place on 14 February 2005. From 2009 the institution changed its profile and has operated as the Muzeum Ziemiaństwa (Museum of the Landed Gentry), and from 2002 it has been subordinate to the self-government of the Greater Poland Voivodeship.
On the first floor of the palace is a permanent exhibition on the former owners of the residence, with the original decoration of the rooms and period furniture, including a dining room with its complete furnishings. The ground floor houses an exhibition on freemasonry. The museum also organises temporary exhibitions on the theme of the landed gentry, concerts, workshops and themed tours.
