About the museum

The roots of the museum go back to the ethnographic and historical collections that Fr Kazimierz Niesiołowski showed at an industrial exhibition in Pleszew in 1912. Between the wars the collection formed a Regional Museum, but in 1939 the occupying forces seized the building and the collections were lost.

The present institution operates in the building of a former postal inn at ul. Poznańska 34, which the town bought in 1976. The museum was formally established by an ordinance of 3 January 1983, in the 700th anniversary year of the town’s founding, and it opened to visitors on 21 October 1983. The first exhibitions concerned the prehistory of the Pleszew area, local crafts, and orders and decorations.

The collections include archaeological finds, memorabilia of the history and crafts of the region, orders and decorations, and more than two hundred works by Marian Bogusz, an artist connected with Pleszew. The museum mainly organises frequent temporary exhibitions on local history and art, and presents its archaeological finds in a permanent exhibition.
