About the museum
The Polish Rock Granary (Spichlerz Polskiego Rocka) is a branch of the Regional Museum in Jarocin. It is housed in a former grain granary in the historic town centre, specially adapted for the museum. The project received EU co-funding in 2010 from the Greater Poland Regional Operational Programme for 2007–2013, and the museum opened on 17 July 2014.
The main part of the collection consists of materials on the rock festivals held in Jarocin since 1970, which in their first decade were called Wielkopolskie Rytmy Młodych (Greater Poland Rhythms of Youth). The museum collects and makes available documentation of Polish rock music from the 1950s to the present day: photographs from successive editions of the festival, music and film recordings of concerts, and documentary films about the phenomenon of Jarocin.
The permanent exhibition is multimedia in character, and its script was developed by Robert Jarosz and Leszek Gnoiński. Besides exhibition and research activities, the building is also used for concerts and other cultural events. The institution also offers museum lessons, workshops and its own shop with publications and gadgets.
