About the museum
The Museum of Firefighting in Przeworsk is a department of the Museum in Przeworsk of the Palace and Park Complex and occupies the buildings of the former draught-horse stables by the Lubomirski Park. The collections came about thanks to the passion of collector Leon Trybalski, whose family had been connected with the local fire brigade for several generations. The collection was opened to visitors as early as 1956.
After renovations of further rooms in 1990 and 1996, the exhibition was considerably enlarged and given its present arrangement. The exhibits show the history of fire brigades in the Przeworsk land and in some more distant parts of Lesser Poland, from the mid-19th century to the present day.
The most interesting items are the hand and horse-drawn pumps from workshops in Vienna, Lviv, Kraków and Tarnów, wooden and brass fire syringes known since the 14th century, and a collection of firefighters’ helmets, including ceremonial officers’ helmets from the Austrian partition period. Visitors will also see uniforms, decorations and medals, firefighting, rescue and demolition equipment, ladders, alarm devices and the equipment of modern rescue units.
