About the museum
The Museum in Przeworsk is housed in the Lubomirski Palace, which was built after the extension of an old manor house and received its Classicist-pre-Romantic form around 1800. The residence belonged to the Lubomirski family, owners of the Przeworsk entail (Ordynacja Przeworska). After the Second World War the palace collections were scattered, and the museum has been gradually recreating and supplementing them.
The exhibition on the history of the town and region, set up on the ground floor in 1974, was built mainly from the collections of the former Muzeum Miejskie (Municipal Museum) in the town hall, founded by Józef Benbenek, the museum’s first curator. On the first floor, in the former piano nobile, palace interiors have been arranged with furniture, porcelain, paintings and decorative arts in the Classicist, Empire and Biedermeier styles. In 1974 the carriage house was also reopened, displaying carriages from the collection of the Muzeum w Łańcucie.
The museum also includes the Dział Historii Pożarnictwa (Department of Fire Service History) in the former draught-horse stables (stajnie cugowe), based on the collection of Leon Trybalski and open to the public since 1956, as well as the “Magnez” gallery for temporary exhibitions. The historic park around the palace is open free of charge all year round.
