About the museum
The Muzeum Pożarnictwa in Przodkowo is housed in the premises of the Volunteer Fire Brigade (OSP) and came into being thanks to the passion of comrade Leon Deyk, who wanted to save fire-fighting exhibits from destruction. Deyk served in the OSP for more than 66 years and began collecting the items at the end of the 1960s; over time they no longer fitted in the fire station. The building in which the museum is housed was put into use in 1975 and was extended in 2010–2014.
The collection has more than 120 exhibits from various parts of Poland and Europe; the oldest are about 200 years old. Visitors will see four historic fire engines, hand and horse-drawn pumps, helmets, uniforms, radio transmitters, press and publications on fire-fighting, and old motor pumps. There are also helmets and uniforms from Switzerland and the GDR, and banners, among them the banner of the Fire Brigade of the city of Lwów from 1924.
On 1 September 2016, on the first anniversary of its founder’s death, the museum received his name. The collection is now looked after by his son, and the museum takes part in the European Night of Museums.
