About the museum
The Adam Fastnacht Regional Museum in Brzozów is housed in the building of the former town hall. The first publicly accessible institution was the community Museum in Brzozów, founded in 1966 by members of the Brzozów Society of Culture, later called the Brzozów Regional Room. The present museum opened on 17 March 1980 thanks to the efforts of the local PTTK branch, and in 1981 the first permanent exhibition on the history and folk culture of the region was opened to the public. In 1987 the historian Adam Fastnacht became the patron of the institution, and since 1995 the museum has been a local-government cultural institution of the Gmina Brzozów.
Between 2008 and 2011 the town hall was thoroughly rebuilt and renovated, and during this time the museum moved to a school building. In the renovated building the roof was replaced, the structure reinforced, a lift, a ramp and toilets for persons with disabilities installed, and the interiors newly arranged. Since 2010 a tourist information centre has also operated at the museum.
The collections contain regional historical, ethnographic and artistic souvenirs: Neolithic axes and hatchets from excavations, municipal documents from the 17th–18th centuries, craft products, the comb-maker’s workshop of Jan Fal and sculptures by local artists. The 20th-century history of the town is recreated through reconstructions of a bourgeois-intellectual salon and a peasant room, a literary-artistic parlour, and the exhibitions “Miasto dwóch religii” (City of Two Religions) and “Z domu Judy… Żydzi w Brzozowie” (From the House of Judah… Jews in Brzozów). The museum runs its own publishing house and since 1991 has published the monthly “Wiadomości Brzozowskie” (Brzozów News).
