About the museum
The Muzeum Regionalne w Jaśle (Regional Museum in Jasło) was established in 1969 through the transformation of the social Muzeum Regionalne PTTK (Regional Museum of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society) into a state institution. It began with 560 exhibits taken over from the Stowarzyszenie Miłośników Jasła i Regionu Jasielskiego (Association of Friends of Jasło and the Jasło Region). Today its collections number more than 20,000 exhibits and archival items in two departments, ethnographic and historical, with collections of art, archaeology and palaeontology.
A turning point came with the donation of 1981: the Jasło doctor and collector Dr Stanisław Kadyi gave the museum his house and rich collections, including paintings, sculptures, porcelain, silver, clocks, furniture, militaria, coins and early printed books. In 1991 the museum opened its first permanent and temporary exhibitions in its new seat at ul. Kadyiego 11, set up in the rebuilt Kadyi house with an added exhibition pavilion. In 1996 the legacy of the painter Ignacy Pinkas, born in Jasło, was added, and in 2022 the museum received a new statute and the name of Dr Stanisław Kadyi.
Today visitors can see an ethnographic hall with folk sculpture, Pogórze and Lemko costumes and village crafts; a hall of art and applied arts with Sarmatian portraits, clocks and porcelain; a hall of sacred art with Gothic sculptures, icons and Judaica; a stylish room devoted to Dr Kadyi; and a hall of temporary exhibitions.
