About the museum
The manor house and park in Żarnowiec were given to Maria Konopnicka by the Polish nation on 8 September 1903, to mark the 25th anniversary of her literary career. The poet spent the spring and summer months here, writing and carrying out educational and patriotic work; among other things, “Rota” was written in Żarnowiec. Konopnicka left the manor house in September 1910 and moved to Lwów, where she died.
After her death, her daughters Laura Pytlińska and Zofia Mickiewiczowa lived in the house. In 1957, on the basis of deeds of gift and with the consent of the heirs, a museum was set up here. The museum is now a cultural institution of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship and comprises the manor house and park complex: the manor house, the Lamus building and the historic park.
The manor house retains authentic interiors from the writer’s lifetime, and a collection of jubilee gifts from 1902 is shown in three rooms. Outside the tourist season, the rooms of the painter Maria Dulębianka are also open to visitors; the museum holds the largest collection of her works in Poland. The Lamus, built in 1985–1991 on the foundations of a former granary, houses a biographical and literary exhibition, a library and a room for temporary exhibitions.
