About the museum

The idea of a regional museum in Pilźno emerged in 2004, and the Town Council decided to create it ten years later. The museum operates as a municipal unit within the structures of the Pilźno Dom Kultury (House of Culture). Its ceremonial inauguration took place on 4 October 2014.

Its seat is the former organist’s house on the north side of the Church of St John the Baptist: a brick, single-storey building from 1908 with a new attic, which the town leased from the parish for 20 years. In 2012–2014 the building was renovated and adapted to the needs of the museum.

The collections number more than fifteen hundred exhibits from the fields of archaeology, ethnography, art, history and numismatics, as well as biographical and literary collections. Visitors will see, among others, archival documents, photographs, objects of material culture and craft, finds from archaeological research on the Market Square in 2014, the interior of a burgher’s parlour and a peasant cottage, a copy of a hussar armour, and works by Stanisław Westwalewicz, a painter associated with Pilźno and Tarnów.
