About the museum

The collections of the Muzeum Regionalne w Sąpłatach (Regional Museum in Sąpłaty) began to be gathered in 1978. The work was done by a group of women from Sąpłaty and Julianowo known as the Babska Izba (Women's Room), under the direction of Maryna Okęcka-Bromkowa, a journalist for Radio Olsztyn and a researcher of the folklore of Warmia and Masuria. After the group disbanded, the memorabilia were looked after at the school by the teacher Zofia Kubicka.

After the primary school closed in 1997, the collections gained a permanent place in a building from 1905. The museum opened on 10 October 1997, and in 2017 its twentieth anniversary was celebrated. The museum is looked after by Zofia Kubicka, who works with the Muzeum Mazurskie w Szczytnie (Masurian Museum in Szczytno).

The collections include old tools, ceramics, spinning wheels, irons, kerosene lamps, furniture, sculptures and paintings from the villages of Masuria and Warmia. A separate corner is devoted to Maryna Okęcka-Bromkowa. The museum hosts meetings with interesting people and themed classes.
