About the museum
The Muzeum Ziemi Koźmińskiej opened on 22 December 1988 in the castle in Koźmin Wielkopolski, initially in two halls run by the Towarzystwo Miłośników Koźmina Wielkopolskiego (Society of Friends of Koźmin Wielkopolski). Over 35 years the exhibition grew to eight halls. Dr Michał Pietrowski has been the museum’s custodian since the beginning.
In 2021 the management of the museum was taken over by the Gminny Zespół Instytucji Kultury (Commune Cultural Institutions Group), and in 2022–2023 the local government carried out a thorough renovation of the castle.
The exhibition includes, among other things, halls on the Greater Poland Uprising, the Spring of Nations of 1848 and local organisations; a Renaissance hall in the tower, with copies of portraits of well-known residents of Koźmin; exhibitions on the history of the castle and of the schools, and on painters associated with Koźmin; and ethnographic collections on the third floor with a view over the town. Visitors can also see the dungeon of Maćko Borkowic, about 9 metres deep.
