About the museum

The Muzeum Bombki is housed in the building of the former factory of glass Christmas ornaments in Milicz. The factory, founded at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, operated without interruption until 2008 and was the largest manufacturer of glass baubles in Poland, producing about a million pieces a year. All production was done by hand, and about 90% of the output went for export, mainly to the United States and Japan.

The museum’s collection of about 6 thousand items comes from the factory’s pattern room, where for years one copy of each pattern produced was set aside. The oldest baubles date from the second half of the 20th century, and the newest from 2007. After the factory’s bankruptcy in 2008, new owners opened the first renovated building of the Kreatywny Obiekt Multifunkcyjny (Creative Multifunctional Facility) in 2013, with a café and a museum.

Next to the museum there is a workshop producing Bombki Dolnośląskie (Lower Silesian Baubles), a regional souvenir decorated with the Wzornik Dolnośląski (Lower Silesian Pattern Book). The educational offer is based on the natural and cultural values of the Barycz Valley. The guided tour with an audio guide takes about 45 minutes, and a museum detective game has been prepared for the youngest visitors.
