About the museum

The Museum of Agriculture named after Fr Krzysztof Kluk was founded in 1962 on the initiative of the Ciechanowiec Friends' Society; it was run by physician Paweł Olszewski and teacher Kazimierz Uszyński. The institution occupies the palace and park complex from the mid-19th century, the former seat of the Starzeński family, which was rebuilt in 1966–1969 after wartime damage.

The museum is now a cultural institution of the Podlaskie Voivodeship and has eleven departments, including ethnography, rural architecture, agricultural technology, the history of crop and livestock farming, herbal traditions and veterinary medicine. Its collections number over 34,000 exhibits, including more than 850 agricultural machines and tools, shown in several permanent exhibitions.

An important part of the museum is the Mazovian-Podlasie Open-Air Museum (Skansen Mazowiecko-Podlaski) with 57 historic wooden buildings from the 18th and early 20th centuries, arranged in three complexes and furnished inside. These include, among others, the church from Bogut-Pianki with its bell tower, the granary from Rudka dated 1761, the smithy from Jałówka, the forester's lodge from Wdowino, and cottages and manor houses. The museum's branches also include a windmill with the miller's farmstead in Drewnowo, a windmill in Dąbrowa Łazy and a village school in Winna-Chróle.

The museum organises well-known outdoor events, including the Easter palm competition, the St Adalbert Fair (Jarmark św. Wojciecha) and the Podlaskie Bread Festival (Podlaskie Święto Chleba).
