About the museum
The Muzeum Ziemi Czyżewskiej was established in 2014 by the Czyżew commune. It was built up in cooperation with residents, who shared the fates of their relatives and donated memorabilia of the past. The collections are intended to document the cultural heritage of the town and region and to be made available to the local community.
The museum is housed in the neoclassical railway station of 1859–1862, built on the Warsaw–Petersburg Railway and listed as a historic monument. A permanent exhibition on the heritage of the region is planned for four halls, along with temporary exhibitions, meetings and educational activities. One of the halls is devoted to the history of the railway, and the exhibition also covers the fates of residents, including the deportations to Siberia.
The station in Czyżew has been undergoing reconstruction since 2023 as part of the Programme of Station Investments (Program Inwestycji Dworcowych); it has been announced that the museum will also operate there after the modernisation.
