About the museum
Opinogóra Górna is linked to the Krasiński family, who received estates here from the king in the 17th century, and who in the 19th century created the Opinogóra entail (ordynacja opinogórska). Its first ordynat, or entailed estate holder, was the poet Zygmunt Krasiński (1812–1859), one of the three national bards (wieszczowie). In the 1950s, on the initiative of the Society of Friends of the Ciechanów Land (Towarzystwo Miłośników Ziemi Ciechanowskiej), work began to rebuild the neo-Gothic Krasiński castle, and after restoration work carried out in 1958–1961 the Romanticism Museum opened in its interiors on 20 May 1961.
In the following years the museum was expanded: in 1970 a house with an arcaded porch was rebuilt, in 1989 a monument to Zygmunt Krasiński was unveiled, and in 1990 the reconstructed manor side wing was added to the complex. In 2008 the newly built Dwór Krasińskich (Krasiński Manor House) was opened, and in 2012 the farm buildings and the landscape park. In 2018 a carriage house with historic carriages and a multimedia exhibition in the orangery were opened.
The palace and park complex now comprises the Neogotycki Pałacyk (Neo-Gothic Little Palace), the Dwór (Manor House), the Oficyna Dworska (Manor Side Wing), the Oranżeria (Orangery), the Powozownia (Carriage House), the farm buildings and the historic park with a game park and an aviary. The exhibitions tell of Zygmunt Krasiński and his family, of Polish painting of the 19th century, and of the Guard Chevau-légers of Napoleon I, in whose regiment Wincenty Krasiński served.
