About the museum
The Muzeum Regionalne w Pułtusku was established in 1964 on the initiative of the Towarzystwo Kulturalne Ziemi Pułtuskiej (Pułtusk Land Cultural Society), with the support of the Voivodeship National Council in Warsaw. Its seat is the historic town hall tower, whose construction began in the first half of the 15th century. Since 2011 the museum has also used the lower floor of the tenement house at ul. Rynek 36.
At first the museum mainly collected works of decorative craft, including pewterware, textiles and furniture. From the 1990s the collection has focused on the history of the town and region. Among the oldest documents is the statute of the shoemakers’ guild from 1540. Valuable items from excavations on the castle hill include a silk scarf woven with gold thread from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries.
The collections also include the iconography of the town, including the oldest known panorama of Pułtusk, from 1657, postcards and old photographs; ethnographic collections from the folk culture of the Puszcza Biała (Biała Forest); cartography of Masovia; Napoleonic memorabilia; and fragments of the Pułtusk meteorite, which fell near the town in 1868.
