About the museum

The museum opened on 15 February 2003 as the Izba Spadochroniarza (Paratrooper’s Room), on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the landing in Poland of Second Lieutenant Adolf Pilch and of the first drop of the Cichociemni at Dębowiec. The opening was performed by representatives of the paratrooper veterans’ circles, including the president of the Krajowe Koło Komandosów Polskich (National Circle of Polish Commandos).

The museum is based on collections gathered since 1978 by its founder, Piotr Wybraniec. It is named after Lieutenant Colonel Adolf Pilch, a Cichociemni paratrooper of the Home Army (Armia Krajowa).

The exhibition presents the history of Polish parachuting and special operations from the Second Polish Republic onwards: the 1st Independent Parachute Brigade, the Cichociemni, the Grenadiers, the 1st Independent Commando Company and the 2nd Motorised Commando Battalion, through to today’s Polish parachute, special forces and reconnaissance units. Visitors can see badges, insignia and commemorative emblems, uniforms, equipment and souvenirs related to civilian parachuting and scouting.
