About the museum
The Muzeum Bombki Choinkowej (Christmas Bauble Museum) in Nowa Dęba was founded in 2012 on the initiative of Janusz Biliński, owner of the Biliński company, which has for years produced hand-painted Christmas decorations. The idea for the museum emerged when, as a young entrepreneur, he began collecting old decorations and kept them at home so that they would not be forgotten.
The collection includes thousands of baubles and other Christmas decorations, among them old pieces found in attics, which adorn the museum's Christmas tree in a traditional Old Polish style. The exhibition also shows how baubles are made. Visitors can see the oldest tools, almost identical to those used today, such as a glass-heating torch from 1953, and aluminium moulds in which glass figures are produced.
During guided tours the blowing and silvering of baubles are demonstrated, the decorating room is visited, and participants can take part in workshops where everyone decorates a bauble of their own. The museum also tells the story of Christmas tree decorations, which appeared in Lauscha in Germany in the mid-19th century and then spread across Europe and the United States.
